He was perfectly imperfect.
What stays with me most is Damir's irrepressible laugh - big, loud infectious and always from the heart.
Such a sweet guy. I speak with him still. And he continues to make me laugh!
He was a bright light in life and I won't let it dim.
Thanks for all the conversations, inappropriate laughter, fireworks, food tasting, terrible movies and everything else.
It was impossible not to be happy in his presence.
He was at home in the world and never cheap with a laugh. We will all laugh a little louder and fight a little harder to fill the enormous void his loss leaves in our lives.
I told them I couldn't lay out Toy Story alone, so they gave me Damir. Then they found out how good he was at everything and they took him away. I missed him then, I miss him more now.
Never did you lose your sense of awe, wonder and newness of the world.
Damir was a friend, confidante, fellow traveler… I wish he were here.
In Memory of Damir Frkovic.
Damir Frkovic was a commercial imaging artist, photographer and visual designer. Born in Croatia, he was raised and schooled in Canada. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design with a BA in industrial design. He spent the next few years working in computer graphics and animation before signing on as a Technical Director for Pixar Animation Studios. At Pixar, he worked as a modeling and lighting artist on several features including Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo.
After leaving Pixar to pursue his own interests, Damir traveled and worked all over the world on many creative projects for many different clients and companies, including Apple, Inc. During this time, he continued to build his body of commercial photography work as a contributing artist for Masterfile, Inc. based in Toronto, Ontario.
Sadly, Damir passed away suddenly in March, 2015. He is survived by his father and his partner of 13 years, Shawnae Lorenz. To those who knew him, he was a man of unlimited talent and imagination who left the world too soon. His legacy lives on in an impressive portfolio of beautiful images in both print and film which reflect the depth of his great talents. Damir was truly a one-of-a-kind creative force.
